Job Description:
The Oregon State Police in Salem, Oregon is hiring for one (1) Full-Time, Permanent Accounting Technician (Accounts Payable Technician) position.

What will you do?The primary purpose of this position is to voucher a wide variety of financial obligations; record and participate in accounting functions making necessary the use of technical accounting skills; and engage in a variety of accounting and business activities involving the application of technical accounting principles and theory.
As an Accounting Technician in this position, you will:
Complete timely accurate audits, verifications and coding of the Departments more complex financial obligations to include verifying large volumes of invoices to be paid.
Claims include, but are not limited to, purchase orders, contract payments, vendor invoices, telecom invoices, travel arrangements, travel reimbursements, fuel bills, utility invoices, and rent payments for offices space, storage spaces, aircraft hangars, and boat moorage.
Prepare and enter payments and adjustments into the Statewide Financial Management Application (SFMA), which requires an advanced knowledge of the accounting system and accounting principles.
All transactions must be in conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as Department of Administrative Services (DAS) and Oregon State Police (OSP) policies, rules, and procedures.
Correspond with vendors, customers, and officers independently, using courtesy and tact, to resolve statement problems and claims disputes.
Complete special projects as assigned by Accounting Manager.
Including, but not limited to, research on various subjects, compilation of data for financial statements, retrieval of payment records for management review, scanning, and assisting the revenue desk.

Minimum Qualifications (these must be addressed in your resume for full consideration):
Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits; OROne year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting.
Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2; ORAt least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting.
Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with accounting in the title.
Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.
To receive credit for required courses, you may be requested to submit a photocopy of transcripts.
Agencies may specify additional qualifications depending on the individual job requirements.

Experience using the State Financial Management System (SFMS).
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team.

The salary listed is the non-PERS (Public Employee Retirement System) qualifying salary range.
If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.
95%.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
