General Public - G Job Duties This position supports Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) internal communications and public relations functions in the 12-county Salem District of southwest Virginia.
Join the award-winning VDOT Salem District's Communications section as a Communications Coordinator working part-time to assist the Communications Manager with internal and external communications programs and deliverables for employees, local and state audiences, and media.
In this position, you will serve as a photographer, graphic designer and videographer to create content to be delivered through various mediums such as social media, newsletters, presentations, brochures and websites.
You will also scan regional media outlets for VDOT and transportation related news stories, advertisements and editorials; clip, organize and archive articles for project and topic files; and upload news coverage links for daily statewide distribution.
You will also maintain a list of updated media contacts for email and Constant Contact and perform general administrative office duties as assigned.
This is an hourly/wage position and is limited to 1500 hours within a 12-month period of the fiscal year.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
Telework options may be considered at the supervisor's discretion, for up to 2 shifts per week, after a 90 day orientation period.

Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate should possess skill in creating images, photographs, video and graphics for internal and external use in print, social media and web.
Skill in using still and video cameras and software such as Microsoft PowerPoint and the Adobe suite (Photoshop) in the PC platform.
Ability to identify relevant articles in newspapers and other media outlets in an accurate and timely manner and maintain project files.
Ability to multitask in a busy office environment.
Ability to visit job sites or event locations during regular business hours with flexibility to meet deadlines.
Valid driver's license to travel independently between assigned work locations.
Note Special Requirement of 5 Samples.
Additional Considerations Skill and experience in all aspects of newsletter or content production including interviewing employees and creating news articles.
Knowledge of Microsoft Teams.
Experience using Adobe Elements and/or InDesign.
