Position Title, series & grade:
Medical Support Assistant GS-0679-00 DUTIES:
Works closely with the Program Director/Coordinator to assist in the effective operation of the outpatient clinics and associated programs.
Functions as a Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) customer service representative to patients, patients' families, co-workers, and the general public.
Serves as the patient's initial and final point of contact during clinic visits.
Coordinates patient contact with and referral to services throughout the medical center.
Receives and screen incoming telephone calls.
Receives routine calls concerning clinic appointments and cancellations.
Makes outgoing calls as necessary, including courtesy calls placed to patients with future appointments.
Receives, investigates, and resolves patient complaints relative to the outpatient clinic areas of the MHSL.
Occasionally assists with patient transport.
Identifies Veterans for whom financial information is required.
Ensures that all Veteran demographic information in VA records is current and accurate.
Interprets providers' orders and progress notes, schedules requested tests, and coordinates patients' clinic appointments.
Ensures all necessary paperwork has been completed appropriately as needed for continued treatment, follow-up or referral, and proper crediting of clinic activity.
Compiles and prepares statistical reports pertaining to the functioning and performance of the MHSL outpatient clinic areas.
Provides program support for other administrative and clinical areas within the MHSL.
Relocation expenses and/or incentives have not been authorized.
