Supervisory Prosthetic Representative

The incumbent reports to the Chief, Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service and consults with the Assistant Chief, Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service and the VISN 6 Prosthetics Representative.
Incumbent will serve as the first line of supervision for all Purchasing Agents assigned to the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service and as Acting Chief, P&SAS, in the absence of the immediate supervisor.
The duties of the Supervisory Prosthetic Representative are to administer, supervise, or perform work concerned with rendering prosthetic and sensory aids service to disabled patients.
Included in this series is such work as:
o Planning, developing, and directing a Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Program at the national, VISN or local levelo Serves as an advisor to clinicians with regard to selection, prescription, and acquisition of prosthetic devices o Interprets prescriptions of clinicians in order to make certain that proper prosthetic devices are selected for, or by, that patientso Authorizes the purchase, fabrication or repair of prosthetic deviceso Maintains continuous liaison with manufacturers and dealers of prosthetic supplies and inspects their facilities and services and participates in the award of prosthetic appliance contractso Participates in investigative/research project studies by selecting patients as pilot wearers of newly developed prosthetic itemso Gives technical and administrative advice and assistance on prosthetic problems to other facilitieso Develops local organizational policies and procedures consistent with national policies and procedureso Authorizes and prepares purchase orderso Develops Statement of Work for service contractso Monitors contracts for compliance to statement of worko Receives, analyzes and processes requests for prosthetic equipment and serviceso Identifies and selects national CMS/Health Care Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) codes and enters for every item purchased through and/or billed to ensure proper reportingo Establishes long and short term program goalso Administers personnel management rules, regulations, and procedureso Plans, schedules, reviews work including projecting and forecastingo Develops functional statements, performance standards, and competencieso Counsels employees and initiates disciplinary actiono Manages time and leave programs and interviews and selects candidateso Recommends promotions, special advancements for performance, special advancements for achievement and conducts performance appraisal evaluationso Implements new directives, programs and policiesWork Schedule:
