Acute Medical Surgical Nursing Assistant Major duties include but are not limited to the following:
Reports changes in patient's condition to the nurse, as well as the patient's acceptance and response to nursing care. Observes the general appearance and condition of skin and reports findings to the nurse. Gives individuals care and attention to acute and chronically ill patients. Assists with ambulation and all activities of daily living. Works closely with patients to increase their physical and emotional independence by guiding,encouraging, instructing, and supervising. Assists the physicians in diagnostic procedures by obtaining equipment and positioning of patients for chest tube insertion, lumbar puncture, and/or physical exams. Takes peripheral pulses other than radial. Assists patients with a range of motion exercises. Transports patients to tests and procedures as directed. Maintains and stocks supplies on the unit as directed. Work Schedule:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education or Training. One year above high school with courses related to the Nursing Assistant occupation. Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant may also meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3. GS-5 NA (Full Performance Level) Experience. One year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-4 level which demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) that are directly related to the specific assignment. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSA's in subparagraph (c) below; OR, Education. Successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included 24 semester hours of courses related to health care or possession of a bachelor's degree; AND Demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
(1) Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long term care or outpatient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. (2) Ability to communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel. This includes serving as a preceptor to new Nursing Assistants by assisting with the coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. (3) Ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. For example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis. Grade Determinations:

Rotation of tour assignments may be necessary. The work includes:
lifting, walking, pushing, stooping, reaching, bending, and standing. There is a need to use proper body mechanics. A variety of mechanical equipment is available to assist in providing patient care which involves lifting, pushing, etc.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
